"I worked as a legal assistant for 50 years, all over the country, ending up at The Walt Disney Company, where I worked for 18 years in their corporate legal department. I have had the pleasure of working for some of the best attorneys in the country! John Morris did an amazing job. He was so thorough and direct and thoughtful. I appreciated his time and effort on my behalf. Most people don’t understand when I say that I love lawyers, but I do. Thank you again."
—Sandra, Owner in Salt Lake City HOA
"When I found John Morris, I was emotionally and legally defeated. Very quickly, armed with his awesome grasp of HOA/FHA law, he gave me back my optimism and confidence. Within a few months, he had secured victories in both courts and with my HOA. Because of John, I’m legally and soundly in my own home with my pet. He’s confident, knowledgeable, tough, and patient. I would recommend Morris DeVoe to anyone who needs the absolute best representation against an HOA."
—Mary, Owner in Salt Lake City Condominium Association.
"I had the pleasure of working with Lauren DeVoe at the law firm of Morris DeVoe due to some unfortunate business with my HOA. I found Lauren to be professional, honest, informative and kind in all of my dealings with her. She truly listened to my problem and gave me honest, up-front advice in regard to my options. She kept me informed at all times, and understood my scheduling needs due to my employment. Lauren was more than willing to help me find the best resolution for my situation, and I greatly appreciated all her hard work and understanding. I would definitely recommend Lauren and her law firm, and would use them again myself if the need ever arises."
—Linda, Homeowner in HOA
"Morris DeVoe runs a very professional operation, which was extremely helpful to me as I reside out of state. I was always informed as to what was happening. We obtained a very acceptable resolution with Morris DeVoe's knowledge and efforts. I would recommend them to any one who has an HOA issue."
—Gary, Homeowner in a Park City HOA
"I am very grateful that I found Morris DeVoe. My only regret is that it wasn't sooner. I can't express the importance of getting good legal help before making decisions in your community. I experienced repeated and continuous discrimination at the hands of our HOA Board. I tried for three years to resolve the issue and explain the legal exposure they were putting us in. We had legal representation as an HOA that was both expensive and ineffective. With no other options, I hired Morris DeVoe to represent me personally to get things resolved. WOW! What a difference! They know their stuff! Time and time again in meetings with other legal counsel I was glad I had them in my corner. On many occasions Mrs. DeVoe had to explain to the other side what the law was. In the end it was a very expensive lesson for the HOA. We could have avoided the whole thing if we would have started with Morris DeVoe. Not all HOA Lawyers are equal. Please do yourself a favor and get the best. You won't regret it. And the best part of all was they truly cared and went out of there way for me in so many ways. If you are an HOA or a Resident I wouldn't hesitate to call! I know I won't!"
—Mark, Homeowner in Utah HOA
"When I was looking for an HOA Attorney, I called about 10 Law firms and asked them; ‘Other than themselves, who is the best HOA attorney in Utah?’ A landslide of them said ‘John Morris’; the second best only had one vote. The other law firms respect and fear John Morris. He leads the way reforming HOA law with the Utah legislature and consequently understands HOA law very well. John gave me very good advice and stood by me when no one else would. The road was seemingly impossible and the legal expense defending myself from a rogue HOA was significant. But the saying is true, ‘you get what you pay for’. After 5 years and $250,000 in legal fees, I got every penny back! More importantly than that, I got justice and vindication. John is tough, smart and the best Trial Lawyer I have ever seen. I will also consider John my friend for the rest of my life."
—Nate, Homeowner in a Park City HOA
"If I were to say one thing, it would be that, ‘John was enthusiastic, professional, knowledgeable, and able to help us do exactly what we wanted for a fair price.’ Thanks!"
—Anne, President of Westcove HOA
"I am a long-time condo owner/resident who was frustrated with both hired management and the elected directors. John was able to quickly and accurately sort out my lack of understanding from the association’s errors. Without any reservation or hesitation I would recommend John to any owner or association in need of competent counsel and/or top-tier litigation. I am now familiar with the cheaper price but higher pain and cost of retaining someone lesser."
—Ray, Homeowner in an Ogden HOA
"We feel very fortunate that when our HOA was seeking legal advice, we were referred to John Morris. When presented with our situation, his vast knowledge and experience in condominium law gave us the courage to move forward in pursuing action against the developer of our building. Due to his brilliant strategy, anticipation and execution, we ultimately received a very large settlement. Not only is John an expert in this field, he is personable and engaging. He has an astute sense of fairness and his intent is to have the right thing happen...which it did. I have gladly shared with members of other HOA's that should they ever need solid advice, John Morris is the attorney."
—Jane, President of Presidential Villas Condominiums
"John Morris has provided our HOA with the highest level of service. His knowledge of the legal and practical challenges faced by condominiums in Utah is unsurpassed, explaining the complexities of the law in a clear and straightforward manner. He is always available and ready to assist with any issue that comes up. He has earned our trust."
—Dan, President of Wasatch Towers HOA
"For the last several years I have had the privilege to work with John in several different capacities. As chairman of the Utah Legislative Action Committee, he was instrumental in the passage of the Condominium and Community Association laws that substantially enhanced governance of community associations. In this role he was able to achieve consensus among a large group of strong-willed individuals, conduct meetings that were timely and focused, and provide a concise representation of the facts to interested parties. For associations seeking a seasoned attorney, I highly recommend him. He has excellent communication skills, a strong intellect, and practical sense for what does or doesn't work. Most importantly he has integrity and does what he commits to do. His common-sense, and get-it-done approach to resolving problems make him a practical choice for HOA counsel."
—LaMond, Sr. Partner with SentryWest Insurance Services

Time and again he has dedicated himself to going above and beyond when helping not only his clients, but the overall HOA affiliated business community as a resource and mentor. He is thorough, highly intelligent, and extremely reasonable. I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending John in any capacity."

He strategizes solutions to complex issues and you can rely on him to handle every detail. In addition to being extremely competent, he’s great fun to work with. I recommend him highly."
—Kathy, Community Manager for EncoreRE Property Management
"I first met John Morris in 1996 when he was on the board and the secretary of an HOA that I managed. Later he became the president and I began working with him more closely. I was so impressed with his skills as an HOA president and as an attorney that I began recommending him to represent the multiple HOA's managed by our company.
Since that time, we have worked together to overcome an untold number of HOA challenges. These challenges have ranged from the typical and mundane to the significant and unique issues that are very detailed and require an extreme amount of care. During these experiences, I have come to realize that there is no one more qualified or more capable. He is simply the best man for the job.
If you are looking for someone with a great mind for HOA issues and who can thoroughly analyze complicated situations, I have not met anyone more knowledgeable than John Morris. He is very good at applying his knowledge to the association’s needs and working out a solid solution to any and all association problems. I consider him a great friend and would recommend him without hesitation to any community needing advice."
—Joe, Community Manager for Property Management Systems
"Our condominium HOA board went to John Morris in order to receive legal advice on how to resolve some difficult confrontational issues happening between several home owners. John quickly and efficiently reviewed all of the issues. He then had a meeting with board members to explain what he had discovered. To our dismay, John had found that the HOA was not even properly incorporated and that our Rules had major issues complying with the Utah Condo Act with the Fair Housing Act. John quickly and efficiently rewrote our Rules. He also created a new violation procedure.
John gave us great legal advice on how to have a board meeting with one of the homeowners who had filed a request for an appeal regarding violations by their tenant. The board followed John's advice and had a very productive and cordial meeting with the homeowner.
John is an extremely competent attorney. He is extremely knowledgeable regarding CC&Rs and condominium law. I would highly recommend that any HOA board use John to ensure that their governing documents conform to the Utah Condo Act.
Additionally, I would highly recommend John in reviewing your current Rules and to ensure that they comply with the Utah Condo Act and Fair Housing Act. Additionally, John can provide you with a set of templates that may be used to enforce Rules through warnings and fines."
—Brian, President of Legacy Ranch Towns HOA
"At every turn that Applegate has required an attorney, John Morris and his partners have provided us with sound, ethical, responsible, and accurate legal information. Responses to our inquiries are without fail, provided expediently. John Morris has shown himself to be a person of exceptional character. In all matters regarding Applegate he has put the HOA before other concerns. We also engaged Morris DeVoe to provide us with collections assistance. Their staff worked diligently to collect thousands in delinquent dues from our homeowners in a polite and professional manner. We are greatly impressed with the Morris DeVoe law firm."
—Sandra Brollier, Applegate Condominium Board Member
"I would be remiss if I did not take the time to acknowledge the positive outcome of John Morris's support, accomplishments, professionalism, demeanor, thoroughness, knowledgeable counsel, intensive focus, holistic approach, clear direction, strategy, and empathy demonstrated during our lengthy two year effort to correct the unpleasant situation that existed at our condominium complex - the Presidential Club Condominiums. In the extremely brief time since we engaged Morris DeVoe's services (1½ months), you were able to bring this entire negative situation to a hasty, cost-effective, and permanent conclusion. Oh - how I wish we had discovered your firm earlier. During our two-year stressful ordeal, we have become aware of the many Homeowners Associations (HOA) that have been experiencing similar, negative situations such as ours. I would hope that they are fortunate enough to become aware of the tremendous clinical focus and professionalism that your firm - Morris/DeVoe - brings to the table.
Our owners are quite relieved that our homeowners association is now able to focus on the efforts that are so critical to all owners including creating a positive environment for all. We, the Members of the Board, with the efforts of Robert and John, now have the ability to do just that.
We look forward to a long, mutually beneficial relationship."
—Jack Schiefer, Secretary Presidential Club Condominiums
"As a seven year resident of the PCC, I have seen the management of our building going from below average to inept. When owners finally decided to have the first election in seven years, it was mishandled [to say the least]. The next task was to remedy the situation. After several months of ineffective legal work and high costs to our condominium association, we engaged the services of John Morris and one of his partners. From then on, good and honest things happened. We have a new board and finally a bright future for our home which was going downhill at a very alarming pace.
Thanks for your professionalism and skill in helping our condominium association."
—Tom Nissalke – Board Member, Former Head Coach of the Utah Jazz, and NBA Coach of the Year
"I recently referred one of our clients to John Morris to completely rewrite their governing documents, and the association was very pleased with the work they received. John was both professional and experienced through every step of the document rewrite process… I will continue to recommend other clients to John Morris."
